THE DIGITAL SANDBOX...
In the same spirit of a physical sandbox, the digital "sandbox" toolkit proposed could be regarded as an "interface environment" in which the children are in control by creating. The main constituents of sandbox are a set of components, functions and interactions possibilities, which children can use to create "digital stuff" around various activities
In the digital sandbox, drawing is regarded as one of the basic creation tools, with it, children compose "digital entities" that will form part of a "world" and could be linked (by sandbox) among themselves and with different qualities (from digital and phisical environments) through various strategies.
It is assumed that the future will bring new and different kind of components, as well as evolve the qualities of the already existing ones. Some of these could become part of children's everyday life environment because they will be ubiquitous resorces, networked and collaborative.
How is our digital environment? what that surrounds us make possible a digital sandbox? The folowing extensions are based on the common building blocks
The toolkit provides a particular conceptual model for the structure of the digital sandbox and the mechanisms to acomplish different kinds of activities organized around that model, here are some examples.
